The Chamber is home to the first Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) Chapter in Iowa. The Young Entrepreneurs Academy is a year-long program that transforms middle and high school students into real, confident entrepreneurs.
The seven young, aspiring entrepreneurs enrolled in this program to learn how to make a job, not just take a job. Our in augural year is being hosted at Loras College on Tuesday nights from 4-7 pm. Over 2 dozen partners and sponsors and over 50 community and business volunteers have lent their support to make our YEA! program possible in Dubuque.
With 19 weeks in, the lucky 7 recently pitched their business ideas to a panel of investors, not unlike the popular Shark-Tank series, as part of the program’s panel presentation event. Their presentations covered their concept, marketing, Market research, financial statements and investment request for start-up seed money.
Each member of the 10 member investor panel had $500 to invest in the business ideas and plans of their choosing. The Chamber’s introduction of the first Iowa YEA! Chapter could not be more relevant. Workforce development is the most critical priority to our continued growth and prosperity.
